9 Mays St Devonport, 1527
The two-storey Victorian villa was built around 1909 by Mr Selwyn Mays, a chief Crown prosecutor in Auckland at the time. Mays St, was renamed after the Mays Brothers who were well-known Devonport identities. The house was owned from 1926 to 1985 by members of the Mason family, who were related by marriage to the Mays family. Classic features of the villa include a distinctive filigreed façade and upper and lower balustraded veranda with cast-iron decorations. Mature jacaranda and walnut trees in the grounds are protected under the Devonport District Scheme.
